Eighth Grade Spanish


Language as a vehicle for learning and not learning as a vehicle for language acquisition best summarizes the way we teach language at Mustard Seed School. We bring children into a Spanish immersion experience that provides them with lots of input, culture and experience. Language acquisition is more than a grammar lesson. It is a social interactive time. Learning occurs in a natural setting and experiences are real such as needing to say "¡Para! to your blindfolded friend so they don't walk into a tree! Singing, games, projects and skits are an important part of exploring a language and learning about it's culture. This term, students will learn to describe themselves physically, make a self-portrait, write poems that expresses their hopes and dreams. They will look at the artwork of various Latin artists and create a simple set of "family portraits" that express family culture and compare to the culture of a Mexican artist as seen in the children's book, Cuadros de Familia.
